THE St. Jude Hospital Bazaar has been hailed a resounding success. Hundreds of people from throughout the island converged on the George Odlum Stadium on Sunday for the event which was held to raise funds for the southern-based healthcare institution.
Organizers hope the bazaar will reclaim its place on the annual calendar of activities in Vieux Fort, following a hiatus stemming from the devastating fire at St. Jude Hospital’s original complex on September 9, 2009.
Patrons began arriving well before the advertised 6:00 a.m. start time to take advantage of the flea market where they were able to purchase a wide variety of new and used items, including crafts, clothing, jewelry as well as unique gift accessories, that were sold for as little as fifty cents.
The Bazaar made a seamless transition later in the day to include entertainment activities for children and adults. For the children, there were trampoline, bouncing castle, lucky dips, horseback riding, cherry tree and face painting, among others.
Adults got a chance to win cash prizes through an exciting Bingo game that included a jackpot draw of $1000.
Later in the evening, the large crowd was entertained with performances by a number of popular artistes from the south. That segment of the event was headlined by Gratta and hosted MC Scady and also featured DJ Reds.
Meanwhile, on May 30, St. Jude Hospital will host a grand raffle with attractive prizes such as round-trip airline tickets, hotel stays, appliances and more. Tickets for the raffle are available for purchase at the Hospital.
There were absolutely no reported incidents associated with the St. Jude Hospital Bazaar.
However, organizers will hold a post-mortem of the event with a view to making it even bigger and better next year.
St. Jude Hospital thanks the general public for the love and support demonstrated by their attendance on Sunday. The Hospital also thanks the sponsors who contributed so generously to the Bazaar, thereby leading to its overwhelming success.
