A massive crowd was in attendance to take in the action of the inaugural DJ Dongar Mackeson Knockout Football final Saturday last at the La Ressource Playing Field in Dennery.
In the third place playoff Rovers United defeated Chesters 2 – 0, both goals were scored by Kerwin Francis.
For the 8:00 p.m. showdown the crowd had doubled for the much anticipated match between two champion teams from the Dennery and Mabouya Valley Football League. Piton Travel Young Stars took on Survivals for the title.
With a lot at stake, both teams pressed for an earlier advantage in a highly entertaining and tense matchup. However, Piton Travel Young Stars broke the deadlock and took the lead in the first half courtesy of a goal by Ridel Stanislaus from a free kick. Survivals with their crowd support behind them likewise continued to press for an equalizer, but were denied by a resilient Piton Travel Young Stars defense. On the resumption, the home team gave it their all, but the score line would remain up until the final whistle was blown by the referee to give Piton Travel Young Stars the championship.
