ST. MARY’S College are the champions of the 2016 Massy United Insurance Under-19 Inter-Schools Cricket Tournament that concluded on Saturday 26.

The Samarians defeated Piaye Secondary by 102 runs at the La Ressource Playing Field in Dennery in a match reduced to 40 overs due to inclement weather.

St. Mary’s College batting first after they were sent in by Piaye Secondary was dismissed for 197 for 8 in 40 overs, with Darcy Popo scoring 52 not out and Keagan Patrick 35. Bowling for Piaye Secondary, Yannick Osman had 3 for 33 in 8 overs, Shelton St. Rose 2 for 51 in 7 overs and A. Alfred 2 for 34 in 8 overs.

Needing 198 for victory Piaye Secondary found the going an uphill battle as they were bowled out for 95 in 25.1 overs, with Nick Andrew making 27 and Shelton St. Rose 23. Bowling for St. Mary’s College, Rahym Joseph had 3 for 9 in 1.1 overs and B. Papin 2 for 29 in 7 overs.

At the end of the match the following awards were presented 2nd Place (Runners Up) Piaye Secondary, 1st Place (2016 Champions) – St. Mary’s College. Massy United Insurance “Player of the Finals” went to Darcy Popo of St. Mary’s College for leading his team to victory with a well-played 52 not out.

Meanwhile, based on statistics of the tournament, a Massy United Insurance “ALL STAR Team” was named KimaniMelius, Rene Montoute (Babonneau Secondary), Adil Barlow (Castries Comprehensive), Zachary Edmund (Grande Riviere Secondary), Kester Charlemagne, Kevyn Arnold (SALCC), Dane Edward, Johnnel Eugene, (Sir Ira Simmons), Lee Solomon (Corinth Secondary), Daniel Augustin (Clendon Mason Secondary), Chris Joseph (Ciceron Secondary), Simeon Gerson (St .Mary’s College), Shelton St. Rose, Shervin George (Piaye Secondary) and Jaden Elibox (Leon Hess Comprehensive).

The team will be under the watchful eyes of Head Coach – Tyrone Ghirawoo (SMC) and Assistant Coach – Meraius James (Piaye Secondary).
