A TRIBUNAL will now preside over a dispute that has been boiling for weeks between the National Workers Union (NWU) and management of St. Jude Hospital over the dismissal of one of the hospital’s employee.
Labour Minister Dr. Robert Lewis has decided to transfer the dispute to the tribunal following the failure of the two parties to arrive at a settlement.
The Minister met with personnel from both St Jude and the NWU yesterday at the Department of Labour in an effort to get the two sides to arrive at a mutual understanding.
But his attempts to resolve the issue appeared to have fallen flat and may have caused the NWU to move into full industrial action mode.
The deadline date given to the hospital’s management for industrial action is Monday. The NWU had submitted a 30 day ultimatum notice of industrial action to the hospital claiming that the action would commence should the matter remained unsolved.
The aggrieved employee, however, is not relying solely on the NWU to fight his dismissal. The VOICE has learned that the employee is also aggressively pursuing the matter in a court of law.
