Thirty two primary school Physical Education Teachers from Piaye, Balata, Grace, Bexon Castries and environs concluded a five day Volleyball Seminar hosted at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Grounds Players Pavilion and the Indoor Practice Facility last week.

Delivered by Volleyball Hall of Famer Coach Suzan Gozansky of the USA, under the auspices of the St. Lucia Volleyball Association, the International Volleyball Federation and the North Central American and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA) in conjunction with the Ministries of Education and Youth Development and Sports, the course taught and demonstrated theory and practical aspects of using Volleyball as part of the Physical Education curriculum.

The course is a central plank of the Association’s Volleyball Youth Development Programme which seeks to spread the game across the island through schools. The Association also provided each primary school with five volleyballs so they could bring the sport to life in their schools immediately. Coach Gozansky rated the participants as A + for their enthusiasm with ability to share their knowledge and skills.

Meanwhile, plans are well on the way for another high level course which the Association hopes to focus on the coaches in secondary schools. In June this year an FIVB Level I Coaches Course will be held to build the game in secondary schools.
