FOND DOUX Plantation and Resort’s commitment to excellence and environmental stewardship has been recognized internationally as The America’s Best Sustainable Boutique Hotel.

The announcement was made last Friday at the World Boutique Hotel Awards (WBHA) ceremony held at the Montcalm Hotel in London.

“We are deeply humbled to receive an award of such magnitude,” said Fond Doux co-owner ErolineLamontagne. “We are committed to environmentally-friendly practices at our resort and are proud to make a positive impact. We have always known that Fond Doux is a world class property, and this award validates that feeling to a global community.”

Nominations for the WHBAs are made by an Awards Voting Jury comprise 30 exceptionally well-travelled industry experts and luxury travel journalists. The WHBA panel reviewed more than 300 hotels before announcing Fond Doux Plantation & Resort as this year’s winner.

Set against the spectacular backdrop of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Fond Doux Plantation and Resort has 15 idyllic cottages set in a tropical rainforest on one of the oldest working plantations in the Caribbean. The property boasts 30 kinds of fruit trees, as well as an abundance of local birds and wildlife. This historic 134 acre cocoa plantation has been called one of the top five plantation resorts in the world.

When Eroline and LytonLamontagne moved in over 20 years ago and began remodelling Fond Doux, they attempted to purge the soil of powerful chemicals used in the cultivation of bananas in the 80’s. This was accomplished by using organic farming methods and the systematic planting of cocoa, which is now the main crop, as well as a vast variety of fruits and flowers. Sustainable tourism activities at Fond Doux are guided by an environmental policy consistent with Green Globe Certification requirements.

“We’re proud that our commitment to excellence is being recognized by both guests and industry professionals,” said Fond Doux’s other owner LytonLamontagne. “We will continue to provide guests with a luxury boutique experience while celebrating our magnificent natural surroundings and adhering to strict sustainable practices that will keep them that way.”

The award comes just weeks after Fond Doux received a third straight Travel Weekly Magellan Award honouring the best in travel, and salutes the outstanding travel professionals behind the scenes.

This year Fond Doux also received a fourth consecutive Certificate of Excellence award from TripAdvisor.
