THE Ministry of Tourism, Heritage and Creative Industries, the Cultural Development Foundation (CDF) and the Saint Lucia Audiovisual and Film Association, in collaboration with the Argentine, Brazilian, Cuban, Mexican and Venezuelan Embassies in Saint Lucia, have teamed up to organize publicly the first ever Latin American and Caribbean Cultural Festival to be held here from November 9 to 13.
The main event, “Latin American Cinema”, will entail the showing of two renowned and/ or awarded films from each participating country, intended for children and the general public. Prior to the screening of the second Latin American film, the public will be treated to audiovisuals and short films produced by Saint Lucians, for the duration of the festival.
This initiative emerged as a result of the process of exchange and collaboration with the Latin American Diplomatic Corps in Saint Lucia, in hopes of sharing the cultural roots and manifestation of their peoples.
Said a reléase from the organizers: “The inaugural festival intends to cultivate an appreciation for the enormous diversity of Latin American and Caribbean cinematography which has had a tremendous impact internationally, because of the unique techniques and interpretations reflected in the quality and production of those films.
“It is our hope that this festival becomes an annual event on the Cultural Calender of Saint Lucia as well as an event on the island’s tourism features listing, and a major event on the cultural calender of the Eastern Caribbean Islands.
The Latin American and Caribbean Cultural Festival takes place at the National Cultural Centre on Barnard Hill and will feature the following films:
