‘Corporal Punishment’ Video Launched

THE Division of Human Services in the Ministry of Health has launched a new music video titled “Corporal Punishment.”

The video was a project collaboration between the Ministry of Health, Wellness, Human Services and Gender Relations, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) the official sponsors of the project, and the Gros Islet Primary School.

The song examines the issues of domestic violence, family values, and the corporal punishment of children both at home and in a school setting. It calls for parents, teachers and members of society in general to devise other methods of disciplining children which can lead to better, well-adjusted children.

The song is performed by Mighty J, who now attends the Corinth Secondary School, and was written by Jason “Bachelor” Joseph, Curriculum Specialist for Music with the Ministry of Education.

The music video which features students and teachers of the Gros Islet Primary School as well as other supporting characters, was well received by the viewing audience.

The video will soon be released on local TV stations and online media. It is hoped the song will bring about awareness which will spur behaviour change. (G.I.S.)
