THE starter’s gun has finally sounded and the St. Lucia Athletics Coaches Association (SLACA) is off and running at last having held two meetings last month and completing the election of executive officers to guide the newly formed organisation.
After nearly a decade of false starts, local athletics coaches met last month at the George Odlum Stadium, electing Andrew Magloire as president of the body. Hugh Breustraal (Head Coach Abilene Track and Field Club) has been voted in as first vice president, Terry Finisterre ( PresidentMorne Stars Track and Field Club) as second vice president, and Dr.VernettaLesporis (Coach Elite Track and Field Club) as secretary.
Subsequent to that convocation, the SLACA executive held a further meeting with local coaches at the National Individual Track and Field Championships last month. Some 15 club, school and individual coaches were in attendance on that occasion. A further meeting is set for today from 9.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. at the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports Conference Room.
Among the principal agenda items for the Coaches Association are a review of the body’s by-laws, a formal meeting with the executive of the St. Lucia Athletics Association, and the launch of a series of coaches roundtables, with a view to the growth and development of the sport in St.Lucia.
Membership in the St. Lucia Athletics Coaches Association is open to all local athletics coaches, who are encouraged to affiliate under the umbrella organisation. Interested persons can email the organisation at [email protected] for more information.
