OUTSTANDING sports personalities within the schools sports system will be recognised separately for the first time as the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports is into the planning stages for the inaugural Schools Sports Awards ceremony.
This ceremony is set for July 3 and will be held at the Marigot Secondary school starting from 10.00 a.m. The proposed annual event will recognise outstanding performers of the preceding inter-schools sporting calendar.
Youth Development and Sports officer Claudia Noel Jn. Baptiste the co-ordinator for the awards., said the objective of the initiative is to recognise talented students, teachers and other administrators for their contribution to sports and physical education.
“All Primary and Secondary schools are eligible to be nominated. Forms have gone out to the principals, and the deadline for receipt of forms is Friday 19 June,” Jn. Baptiste said.
The categories for the awards come from three general headings; Sports Development Awards, Individual Awards and Prestigious Awards.
“National Schools tournaments champions in each sport will also be recognised.” added Jn. Baptiste.
