Bureau Celebrating 25th Anniversary
The Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards will this month observe the 25th year of its establishment with the passage of the Standards Act in 1990.
As part of activities to mark the observance the SLBS will be hosting a number of activities to include the launching of the 2015 – 2020 Strategic Plan, recognition of trailblazers and a standards and business development showcase.
The showcase expected to be the flagship event will be held under the auspices of the Minister of Commerce, Investment and Consumer Affairs Emma Hippolyte.
The showcase will be an opportunity for the SLBS and other agencies including the Trade Export Promotion Agency TEPA, the department of Small Enterprise Development Unit SEDU and Business Development of the Ministry of Commerce and the Basic Needs Trust Fund (BNTF) to present their products and services to the public.
Another important feature which we hope will draw people to the showcase will be an exhibition of the products of manufacturers who have worked with various agencies of the Ministry of Commerce in the development of their business. The products on showcase will include local wine, jams, jellies, clothing and textiles, water, juices, craft and a host of other products.
A further exciting feature will be the opportunity for stakeholders to get a discount on the purchase of standards as well as discounts across a range of certification programmes, if applications into the programme are made on the day of the showcase at the location.
The launching of the month of activities took place yesterday at Orchid Garden at Union and was addressed by Ms. Hippolyte..
