THE sound of music in the city is expected to get even sweeter next month as organizers prepare for the 18th edition of Jazz on the Square.

This year’s artiste lineup features a rich and eclectic blend of Saint Lucian and foreign artistes whom organizers say will give the usual Derek Walcott Square music aficionados more reasons to soak up some free music concerts in the heart of the city.

This year’s line-up features the following acts:

• Wednesday, May 6: Monty Maxwell (Saint Lucia), Sondé (Cayenne) and Ronald “Boo” Hinkson (Saint Lucia)
• Thursday, May 7: Humphrey Inglis& Tickle Me Too (Saint Lucia), TFO: Elan Trotman and Kristen Walker (Barbados) and Miguel Siso (Venezuela)
• Friday, May 8: Kenson Hippolyte & Soul2Soul (Saint Lucia), Ken “Professor” Philmore& Friends (Trinidad) and Zouk and the Gang (Guadeloupe). Also being featured is Luke Fencher from London with Kenson Hippolyte.

The three-day concerts run from 12 noon to 3:00 p.m. daily. Organizers say there will be no night concerts at this year’s Jazz on the Square, which began in 1996. They say the nightly concerts were scrapped so as not to clash with other fringe events taking place around the island.
Director of Tourism, Louis Lewis, said Jazz on the Square has over the years become the signature event of the Saint Lucia Jazz & Arts Festival, one “that really brands Saint Lucia Jazz as different from any of the other competing events.”
