FOOTBALL action continued in Vieux-Fort South, Mon Repos and Marchand over the weekend with a number of matches being played.
Results of the matches in Vieux Fort were: Platinum 3 Venom Strikers 0, Square United 2 Augier 1, Shamballah 1 Bruceville Strikers 0, Green Lake 4 Venom Strikers 2.
Yesterday, Platinum played Augier. Upon going to press there was no word as to the result, Today, Veterans will play Stable Boys from 4.30 p.m. at the Dame Playing Field.
The Mon Repos Football League Senior Club competition continued on Sunday with a keenly contested match between Patience Youth Organization and Young Strikers Sports Club. After a goalless first half the game life with Young Strikers emerging victorious by a 4-1. Goals for Young Strikers came from Kenson Walter in the 48th minute, RohanLesmond in the 55th minute and a double strike from LenvorHippolyte in the 77th and 87th minutes, while the consolation goal for PYO came from Denver Moncherry in the 84th minute.
Last evening Grass Street Sports Club took on Praslin Bay United at the Wenn Playing Field.
Meanwhile, all coaches and persons interested in football development in Mon Repos are invited to a meeting with the executive of the football committee today from 7.00 p.m. at the Community Centre.
In the Marchand Football League Group A match played on Saturday, Young Veterans and Pavee shared points as their encounter ended 2 – 2. The goal scorers for Veterans AkaelJn Baptiste in the 9th minute and Benjamin Gabriel in the 51st minute.
For Pavee United, Cletus Dolor scored in the 24th minute and Brandon Anneville.
Also on Saturday, Marchand Under – 23 defeated one of the tournament favourite’s Big Players 2 – 1 Shadrach Henry converted a fine goal from just within the Big Players 18 yard box. He seemed to almost fool the Big Player’s defence striking a powerful low drive to the left of national goal keeper Alton Roberts. Misfortune turned to disaster when Nye Henry, the Big Players centre back, took down the Under – 23 attacker in the area, Jarvis Joseph stepped in and converted the penalty in the 41st minute.
The second half saw Big Players pressing higher up the field. In the 54th minute the experienced Lincoln Phillip took his tally to 13 goals as he reduced the deficit to 2-1 and that’s how the scoreline remained at the final whistle.
Meanwhile, the Castries Football Council would like to inform football fans that action in the CFC / St. Lucia Football Association Registration tournament recommences tomorrow when league leaders Flow Lancers FC take on FC Pioneers at the SAB Playing Facility from 4.00 p.m.
There will be a full slate of games on the weekend. On Saturday, from 4:00 p.m. Flow Lancers FC will play NYAH. A double header is scheduled for Sunday. From 2:00 p.m Police takes on VSADC and at 4:00 p.mSunrisers FC will play Valley Soccer Club.
