CSA Meets Again Today On Isaac

PRESIDENT of the Civil Service Association (CSA), Mary Isaac will, at 9:00’clock this morning, present her case before members in what is expected to be an explosive extraordinary general meeting at their headquarters in Sans, Soucis.

“This urgent meeting is necessary to address a number of issues that the general membership must resolve for the smooth functioning of their trade union,” read the circular to members informing them of the meeting.

Though not highlighted, one such issue has to do with the first held extraordinary general meeting earlier this month where 124 members voted, out of 153 present, for Isaac to resign.

She has since dismissed that meeting and the vote taken for her resignation by questioning the authenticity of the petition which was the basis of the meeting.

The bone of contention which has divided the CSA into two factions, is Isaac’s acceptance of a Senatorial appointment from the opposition United Workers Party last December.

One faction saw the move as one leading to a conflict of interest on her part and started a campaign to remove her from the presidency. But throughout it all, Isaac remained confident saying that the majority of the CSA members were supportive of her and want her to remain as president.

Today’s meeting will, among other things deal with the attempt at the last meeting to have Isaac resign from the presidency.

Also on the agenda is a thank you message to the Executive Council for, the way it discovered, in the estimates of expenditure, the government’s attempt to adjust members’ wages and salaries by five percent.
