After Joy Comes Reality!

I must admit that this year’s carnival festivity activity was a bomb. Most of the participants seemed joyous and the many service providers must have profited, one way or another.

These days, it is from one activity to another, considering we had jazz, then world cup cricket, followed by carnival and next will be Emancipation celebration with Jounen Kweyol in the wings.

Despite the fun and the glamour, I was reminded by my ‘Baby-Mama’ that school books, uniform, and shoes have to be provided for as soon as possible, as well as the fees for the various workshops taking place during the summer our daughter should enrol in.

Nemo reminded us also to stock-up on extra food, considering we are in the hurricane season.

The varying utility companies never fail to remind us of our monthly dues, and not too long ago my insurance primum went up.

I am saying all of that, not to put out my business, but to remind people to stay grounded, not to be overwhelmed with the Fete and Fun and forgetting the grim realities of daily survival.

No doubt everybody is trying to make a buck, the economy is buoyant, joy seems to be in the air and the government is boosting their support, but the dog-eat-dog survival mode also continues.

Life is about balancing, being able to separate fiction from reality, assessing the pros and cons, dealing with today not forgetting tomorrow.

The commercial sector is always about profits, enticement is their motto, but you have to take care that you don’t sink too-deep in the melee not to be conscious of the decisions we make from day-to-day, because they can have dire consequences.

There are many risks to avoid, as it is not always the best to follow the crowd, because you can get lost in the middle — and when you are really in need there are no open doors to knock at.

Fun and adventure are necessary, but not seeing the big picture, or the way the system can be manipulative, can catch you with your pants down.

Today’s life is such that you need to open your eyes. In the same way the ad says ‘Drink Responsibly’, I say the same too and urge all to also Think Responsibly.

Be aware of your actions as you are always accountable for them and don’t be led like sheep to the slaughter.

We live in crucial times, all is not as well as some have us to think, or believe, as we are also at the brink of a possible third world war and the climate is changing rapidly, but spiritual awakening is absent from our day-to-day living.

Like I said, this article is food for thought, to encourage us all to not only drink responsibly, but to also always act responsibly and think responsible, whether we drink or not!
