Double Celebration
For Sharks Swim Club
Anthony De Beauville

The Sharks Swim
Club has a lot to cheer about as one of the
leading swim clubs on the island. Their performance
over the last three years in and outside the
swimming pool can best be described as exemplary.
The club is
presently in the process of recruiting some
of the island’s young and aspiring swimmers
and likewise in the coming days will commence
a hectic fund raising drive for its members
as sponsorship on the home front continues to
dwindle.
Over
the past 3 years Sharks Swimmers have been at
the forefront of St. Lucia’s swimming
locally, regionally and internationally. However,
there has been much to celebrate in the pool,
outside the pool and in the class room respectively.
Sharks Swimmers have shown that they have what
it takes to combine swimming and academic and
still be a force to be reckoned with.

One of St.Lucia’s
2000 Sydney Olympian swimmer Jamie Peterkin
is presently the Head Coach for the Sharks Swim
Club. Jamie took a time out to speak to this
reporter earlier this week when he said, “To
date, our swimmers have qualified for meets
such as the Commonwealth Youth Games, the Commonwealth
Games, Youth Olympic Games, Junior World Championships,
World Championships and the Carifta Games just
to name a few”
He further went
on to say, “We have enjoyed a record breaking
and medal performances at the regional level
Championship meets and being awarded for our
outstanding performances in the classroom as
well”.
The likes of
Siona Huxley, Runako Daniel and Jordan Augier
have captured the junior sportswoman and junior
sportsman for the year. Presently, Jordan Augier
is the reigning junior sportsman for 2011. |
