NEW HIGH
COMMISSIONER
Stan Bishop

Outgoing Chief
Executive Officer of the West Indies Cricket
Board, Dr. Ernest Hilaire, says he is quite
ready to take up his new diplomatic post.
As of October
1, 2012, Dr.Hilaire will take up his duties
as Saint Lucia’s High Commissioner to
the United Kingdom. The outspoken and often
controversial outgoing WICB official told host
Clinton Reynolds last Wednesday evening that
his rich background in international relations
serves as a crucial criterion to the new post.
The incoming
High Commissioner added that he intends to carry
out his diplomatic duties in a diligent manner
that redounds to tangible benefits for Saint
Lucia. Nevertheless, it will be a learning experience
in itself, Dr.Hilaire admitted.
“The next
thing for me to do is to serve my country as
best as I can as the High Commissioner in London,
to utilize all my skills and to learn new skills
and to ensure that Saint Lucia benefits, certainly
from my performance as High Commissioner,”
Dr.Hilaire explained.
He did not,
however, rule out the prospect of running for
political office at the national level. There
has certainly been much speculation about the
rise of Dr.Hilaire among the ranks of the Saint
Lucia Labour Party (SLP) of which he is an influential
member and prominent strategist. |
