Marketing Board Relocation
Merissa Stephen

Departments of the St. Lucia Marketing Board will settle in a new home found at the National Clearing House, located at the Inland Reception and Distribution Center in Odsan, from Monday 24th September, 2012.

The St. Lucia Marketing Board has legitimized the move of their wholesale department, purchasing department and administrative offices to a new location in Odsan, stating that the organization will be better positioned to enhance the ‘quality of service offered to farmers, purchasers and other clients’.

General Manger of the Marketing Board, Flavien Rudolph communicates that the decision to move the various departments from their forty-year old location in central Castries is one with many benefits. “The place is very much congested and it makes it unsuitable for business,” he states.

“When a farmer parks with a pick up truck to make a delivery, it is difficult to get there with the situation with the congestion and the traffic, as well as other things like the smell around etc…The other thing too is the building, how it was designed…it was not designed with the best facility to facilitate the off loading and loading of produce,” Rudolph added.

The General Manager communicates that the building which the administrative department also occupies is dilapidated and does not provide the best conditions in which to work. “It has deteriorated tremendously,” he confessed.

Rudolph believes that the new location is more centralized and caters more to the needs of farmers as well as staff of the Marketing Board. The organization has stated that the retail store will remain in its current location despite the changes that will be taking place as it relates to the move.

The new location of the wholesale, purchasing and administrative departments will also accommodate the future plans of the organization. The General Manager indicates that with projects to be undertaken, the potential of the location in terms of expansion and space looks promising.
