Caron Tobiere- Here’s a Little about This Face
Merissa Stephen

Meet Caron Tobiere, the woman behind the success of St. Lucia’s Calypso season.

“I have been involved in arts and cultural activities for almost all my life and have played very active roles in theatre, drama and poetry here,” shares Tobiere.

Caron has for a number of years now been on the committee involved with putting on the various tents for calypso. She indicated that her involvement is not just because she’s capable of conjuring up a good event, but because she is a lover of the art form.

“I am an avid calypso fan and can tell you some very funny stories about the development of calypso/ tent pinezetc,” stated Caron, “So getting into the administration of calypso was not too big a leap.”

A woman manning her own, Caron indicates that working in a predominantly male atmosphere has proven to have its challenges. Overcoming the intimidations of such an ambience has made her even stronger in her line of work. “As you would imagine dealing with calypso is dealing with men and that in itself poses a challenge,” she shared.

Tobiere is a qualified professional. “I am a qualified Events & Weddings Consultant with a background in Business Administration,” she communicated. This lady loves what she does. She indicated that apart from her job, she particularly takes joy in training and teaching persons.

When trying to get production off the ground during the Carnival season, Caron describes that balancing work and family life could become a little hectic. “It was difficult balancing family and calypso, especially in the height of the season,” she stated, communicating too that her role as a mother comes first and foremost.

“I am first a mother of two beautiful boys and I am most passionate about that,” she added. She, like almost every mom, had her share of knocking off things to do on her “back to school” list. “My last son is eleven and has just started secondary school,” she commented.

Caron’s responsibilities are many and form part of the career and family life that she loves. She also shared that her achievements extend beyond the home and the work place. She has left her mark on the court too.

Caron is a netball lover. “I not only played netball, but also served on the executive for many, many years in almost every capacity, including president, coach and umpire,” she shared.

Caron is known to many as a dedicated and hard worker, a go getter and a great organizer. An instrumental figure in the revival of the St. Lucia Calypso Association, we can’t wait to see what she produces next.
