Sagicor Assists with Journey of Junior National Athletes

Prior to the Games of the XXX Olympiad in London, junior athletes of St. Lucia gained valuable track and field exposure when they competed against their regional counterparts at the 14th Biennial Caribbean Union of Teachers’ (CUT) Games. Sagicor Life Inc offered their support to the St. Lucia Teachers’ Union (SLTU) with a kind contribution in aid of sending a contingent of 22 athletes and six officials to Jamaica.

“We are pleased to assist the St. Lucia Teachers’ Union and by extension the athletes” said Sagicor Agency Manager Ronald Phillip, he continued ”We hope that through participation in the CUT Games the students can hone their skills and go on to be champions in their chosen events”.

The CUT Games were founded as a means to develop young athletes between the ages of eight and 15 while promoting healthy competition and regional integration. Before becoming Olympic Champion in the 400m, Grenadian gold medallist Kirani James won gold at the CUT Games in 2006. By partnering with the SLTU, Sagicor Life Inc demonstrates their commitment not only to youth development and sport but to the notion that children benefit when they lead active lifestyles.

St. Lucia team captured two bronze medals and finished 11th overall.
