Hundreds
of St.Lucian children to enjoy tennis with LIME
Tens
of thousands of LIME TV customers in Saint Lucia
were glued to their television sets recently,
watching Andy Murray win his first-ever Grand
Slam as he defeated Novak Djokovic in the US
Open men’s final. But in years to come,
if an initiative announced by LIME bears fruit,
we could one day be watching our very own on
international TV.
The
Caribbean’s leading communications company
this week unveiled a partnership with Tiger
Tennis Club, CBS affiliate WSEE TV channel 114
and sports channel, Winners TV 80, to launch
a programme that will give hundreds of children
from several schools in the Castries basin the
chance to learn the fundamentals of tennis under
the tutorship of SirseanArlain, one of the island’s
best tennis players and a leading coach.
The
programme starts September 29 and will run over
a period of 6 months. Hundreds of students from
schools in District Two will get weekly training
and periodic skills tests. They will then participate
in a series of matches organized by their respective
schools. District Two was selected for the initial
stage of the programme because of its proximity
to the Kenneth “Wriggler” King facility
where the training sessions and matches will
be held. |
