WISG Enters Day 5 Down South

THE excitement, loud shouts and friendly rivalry will continue today at the two venues selected by the organizers to host matches in the 2018 Windward Islands School Games.

In male volleyball, Grenada versus Dominica and Saint Lucia plays Saint Vincent and the Grenadines at the Micoud Multi-Purpose Court.

In football action at the Phillip Marcellin Grounds, Grenada versus Dominica and Saint Lucia will be up against Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

Female basketball is slated for the Vieux Fort Court, Grenada versus Saint Vincent and the Grenadines; while hosts Saint Lucia and Dominica will close off things on day 5.

Tomorrow, in female volleyball action, Dominica plays Saint Vincent and the Greandines and Saint Lucia versus Grenada. Both matches scheduled for the MMPC.

In netball, Grenada plays Dominica, and Saint Lucia will fancy their chances against Saint Vincent and the Greandines at the MMPC.

Male basketball will see Grenada up against Dominica and Saint Lucia plays Saint Vincent and the Grenadines at the Vieix Fort Court.

Day 3, Grenada pulled off victories in their two events as day three of the 2018 Windward Islands School Games ended here Tuesday but the highlight of the day’s schedule was Dominica’s thrilling come from behind 47-40 victory over hosts Saint Lucia in male basketball at the Vieux Fort Multi-Purpose Court.

The Saint Lucians were up 12-0 early in the proceedings but a determined Dominica outfit showed resilience late into the first half and paced themselves well in the second for a strong finish. Aaron Hippolyte was pivotal for the Dominicans with 12 points, 7 rebounds and Faywanie Foyle contributed 12 points and 11 rebounds.

For Saint Lucia Noah Boyde had 11 points and 13 rebounds.

In more basketball news, Grenada held a comfortable 76-56 scoreline against Saint Vincent and the Grenadines at the final whistle. For Grenada, Alkinde Redhead had 16 points, 5 rebounds, Jake Baptiste 25 points 8 rebounds, Omar Panchoo 15 points 10 rebounds and Omar Walker 11 points 13 rebounds.

Also on Tuesday in Netball action, Grenada defeated Saint Vincent and the Grenadines 27-12, quarter scores 6-4, 10-8, 16-9, 27-12. Goal shoot Kelsie Murrel Ross scored 21 of 37 attempts for Grenada and Carlene Alexander 6 from 11. Goal shoot Kristiana Christopher 6 from 13, Goal attack Chaunte Williams 4 from 10 and Goal Attack Bobriel Ballantyne 2 from six attempts for Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

Hosts Saint Lucia had to hold off a late surge by Dominica to win their encounter 27-25. Saint Lucia lead at all quarters 7-5, 10-9, 21-15, 27-25. Goal Attack Megan Nestor netted 18 of 29 attempts and goal shoot Daysha Eugene 9 from 18. Dominica’s scoring was carried by Goal attack Kyla Winston 15/23 and goal shoot Celina Langlaise 10 from 14 attempts.

On Monday 23, in female Volleyball played at the Micoud Multi-Purpose Court Volleyball; Dominica defeated Grenada in straight sets 25-12, 25-15,25-15.

Saint Lucia also had a three sets victory over Saint Vincent and the Grenadines set scores 25-16, 25-20, 25-23.

At the Vieux Fort multi-purpose court there were wins for Saint Lucia and Dominica in female basketball.

Dominica had the better of Grenada 43-14 with Alliyah Prince scoring 13 points 5 rebounds and Kaylee Clarke 11 points and 4 rebounds.

For Grenada Chantelle Bartholomew was the lead scorer with 10 points with three rebounds.

In the second encounter between Saint Lucia and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, the host was leading with 40 points (54-14) advantage when a shower, just past 11.00 p.m. brought mutual agreement from both camps that they would have ended play with a few minutes left.

Mia George was dominant for Saint Lucia with 25 points, 2 rebounds, Kiana Nelson 13 points 11 rebounds, 3 assists and Jermiah Evariste 10 points and 10 rebounds.

For Saint Vincent and the Greandines Jada Peters, 5 points and 4 rebounds.

In football action just a stone throw away from the basketball court, at the Philip Marcellin Ground, Grenada had a 2-0 win over Saint Vincent and the Grenadines with goals from Rickel Charles in the 19th and Leon Braveboy in the 22nd.

In the second encounter, Dominica and Saint Lucia played to a goalless draw as both teams had to settle for 1 point.

On the opening day of WISG on Sunday 22, at the George Odlum Stadium, Grenada emerged winners in track and field championship amassing a total of 281 points, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines 251 points, Saint Lucia 209 points and Dominica 172 points in that order.

In Grenada’s charge there were wins for Aaiyah Bartholomew, 5.27 metres -shot put, Keslie Murrell-Ross, 12.86 metres – javelin, Reanna Joseph, 32.27 metres, boys 200m (Nathaniel Mark, 21.47 seconds, 400 metres Khyle Gibson, 47.93 seconds, 1500 metres -Michael Francois, 4 minutes 13.05 seconds, triple jump, javelin throw, 4×100 metres 41.87 seconds, high jump Kenny Horsford 2.00 metres, shot put 14.88 metres and discus 45.50 metres Johann Jeremiah.

For Saint Vincent and the Grenadines in the girls 100 metres Ulanada Lewis, 12.10 seconds, 800/1500 metres Zita Vincent, 2 minutes 20.30 seconds and 5 minutes 07.66 seconds, 4×400 metres 4 minutes 07.02 metres, high jump -ZameshaMyle, 1.60 metres, discus – Krystal Foster, 33.96 metres, boys 800 metres, Desroy Jordan 1 minute 54.51 seconds, 4×400 metres 3 minutes 21.97 seconds and long jump – Godwyn Roban, 6.61 metres.

Saint Lucia, Kimani Alphonse went on to win the girls 200 metres in a time of 24.51 seconds and 400 metres in 54.61 seconds. She was also a member of the victorious 4×100 metres team 48.39 seconds; Saint Lucia also captured gold in the boys 100 metres through Shelton St. Rose in a time of 10.60 seconds.
