Confidence Is The Name Of The Game

THE EDITOR: The SLP has been in campaign mood from day one since their departure from the reigns of government but more importantly neither the former PM nor the member for Castries South has recognized and accepted the current PM, hence the ongoing discord emanating from a form of despair and frustration.

One would have recognized that after 24 months in office, a new regime is at the helm elected by the majority.

There is hardly one decision which has been taken by the current administration which has not enacted the wrath of the opposition taking into account that it was a similar philosophy adopted prior to the 2016 elections which highlighted the popularity of the UWP leader.

The member for Castries South is basically an educated individual with a level of international exposure, yet he makes a mockery of his position by lamenting over the fact that St. Lucia exposed itself to an invasion of some two billion Chinese as a result of a change to the visa status of mainland China, the second largest economy in the world and a nation which incidentally has invested billions into the ailing Venezuela economy.

The interesting part, however, is the fact that since the UWP came into office the unemployment rate has dropped by 7%, in 2018 thus far some 1500 jobs were created, by November 2018 another 2400 jobs will be created, the lending institutions on island have disbursed some EC $240million to the hospitality industry and home construction, the DSH project has completed its first phase and EC$400 million for the HIA project breaks ground on September 5th, 2018.

Additionally, a number of inner roads have been addressed and the banana industry presently exports 18,000 boxes a week and growing while La Caye and Roseau plantations come into production we can visualize an additional 12000 boxes a week.

The distillery in Roseau is in expansion mode and additional lands have already been purchased for that purpose. It is the confidence within this administration which has precipitated all these ongoing ventures.

St. Lucia is a tiny nation with limited resources exposed to an everchanging world brought about by an unfortunate IMPACS situation and has suffered enormously from a costly US security contribution at a time when our borders are flanked from all angles.

The PM has the responsibility of a nation under his charge and has greater access to more sensitive information than the opposition, consequently, the MP for Castries South is well placed to understand the working of government as he was once deeply involved.

We respectfully ask the opposition to understand their role, as they are no longer the decision makers at this point in time. Gang warfare is a growing scourge the world over including the most sophisticated city in the world – London England which is now at its wits end with murders, therefore, all necessary steps must be taken to protect our people.

Hopefully, the opposition will take the time to familiarize themselves with the ongoing reality and to understand that cheap political points is a feature of the past.
