Johnson Charles To Lead St. Lucia In Windwards Tourney

SAINT LUCIA will open their campaign in the 2018 Windward Islands Senior Men’s Cricket 50 overs a side Tournament against Dominica Saturday at the Mindoo Phillip Park (MPP).

While that same day, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines will take on Grenada in Mabouya Valley at the La Ressource playing field. Both matches will bowl off at 9:30a.m.

Day Two of the tournament will see Saint Lucia play Grenada at the Mindoo Phillip Park; while Dominica takes on Saint Vincent and the Grenadines at the La Ressource playing field.

Monday is a rest day, but the action resumes on Tuesday 29th.

At the Mindoo Phillip Park, Dominica will play Grenada; while in a battle of the ‘Saints’ Saint Vincent and the Grenadines will take on hosts Saint Lucia at the La Ressource playing field.

Following the preliminary round, the top two teams will play each other in the grand finale at the MPP.

Meanwhile, the Saint Lucia National Cricket Association panel of selectors has named a 13 man squad and four reserves to represent the island in the weeklong Tournament.

In the squad are two new comers -all-rounder CollinusCallendar and fast bowler Jeremy Marshall.

Leading Saint Lucia’s charge is West Indies opening batsman Johnson Charles. This is the first time the 29 year old hard hitting right hand opening batsman will lead the home team in any format of the game.

Charles has played 48 ODI’s for the West Indies, with a highest score of 130. He made his ODI debut for the West Indies versus Australia at Arnos Vale playing field, Kingstown, March 16, 2012, since then he has scored 1283 runs at an average of 26.72 and a strike rate of 83.80.

He will have alongside him Windward Islands and Saint Lucia Stars right hand top order batsman/right arm off spinner KeddyLesporis as his deputy.

The full squad reads: Johnson Charles (Captain), KeddyLesporis (Vice Captain),Kimani Melius-right-hand opening batsman, Tarryck Gabriel-right hand top order batsman/right arm off-off break, Jamaal James-left -hand top order batsman/right-arm off spinner, Dornan Edward-right-hand lower middle order batsman/right-arm leg spinner, Larry Edward-left-hand middle order batsman/left-arm orthodox spinner, Audy Alexander-left-hand middle order batsman/left-hand chinaman, Stephen Naitram-right hand opening batsman and wicketkeeper, Kevin Augustin-right-arm seamer, Collinus Alexander- right hand middle-order batsman/left-arm seamer, Dalton Polius-left arm top-order batsman/right-arm off spinner and Jeremy Marshall-right-arm fast bowler.

Reserves – Johnnel Eugene-right-hand top order batsman/right-arm fast medium, Craig Emmanuel-right-hand middle order batsman/right-arm seamer, Tonius Simon-left-hand top order batsman/right-arm off spinner and Vidal Crandon-right hand top order batsman and wicketkeeper.

The team will be under the watchful eyes of Coach-Alton Crafton and Manager-David Olliver.
