Anglicans in Saint Lucia welcome new Clergy

PRESS RELEASE – THE Anglican Community in Saint Lucia will, in April 2018, officially welcome new Clergy to the Church Parishes throughout the island.

The Venerable Archdeacon Christian Glasgow will be formally instituted, inducted and installed as the new Rector of the Anglican Parish of Holy Trinity, Castries with St. Mary The Virgin, La Caye, and recognized as Archdeacon of Saint Lucia on Wednesday 25th April 2018. The Bishop of the Diocese of the Windward Islands The Right Reverend C. Leopold Friday will preside over the ceremony which will take place at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church commencing at 5.00 p.m. Among local and regional dignitaries who have been invited to the ceremony are the Governor General of Saint Lucia, Sir Neville Cenac, Parliamentarians, leaders of the local and regional religious community of faiths and well wishers from the Anglican community island wide.

Archdeacon Glasgow commenced duties in Saint Lucia in January 2018 and has been serving as Priest in charge of Holy Trinity in Castries and St. Mary The Virgin in La Caye, Dennery. Prior to his arrival in Saint Lucia, he served as Rector of the Parish of St. George In Grenada for over a decade and as Archdeacon of Grenada, with several tours of duty in other Parishes in Grenada. He is a national of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Archdeacon Glasgow was ordained to the priesthood in September 1992 at the St. George’s Cathedral in Kingstown, St. Vincent and the Grenadines. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Theology from the University of the West Indies and a Master’s Degree in Applied Theology from the University of Kent at Canterbury in England. He has had extensive experience in youth and community work, and educational development in the Windward Islands. Among the positions held were Chairman of the Board of Management of the Bishops College in Cariacou, Chairman of the Conference of Churches of Grenada, Chairman of the Human Rights and Justice Commission in the Diocese of the Windward Islands, and President of the Anglican Youth Council of St. Vincent of the Grenadines. He was also part of delegations to regional and international Anglican Synods.

Archdeacon Glasgow is married to the Reverend Eleanor Glasgow who was ordained to the Holy Order of Priests in September 2013. She has been assigned as Priest in charge of the Parish of Grace Church (RiviereDoree) with St. Paul’s (Vieux Fort) and Christ the King (Soufriere.) Her induction ceremony as Priest in charge of that Parish will take place on Thursday April 26th, 2018 and will also be presided over by the Bishop of the Windward Islands.

Reverend Eleanor Glasgow has had extensive experience in social work, community development and education. She was a Field Officer for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in Grenada, Manager of the Cedars Home for Battered Women and Children in Grenada. She holds Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Theology from the University of the West Indies. Between October 2013 and December 2017, she served as Priest in charge of the Parish of James Layou with St. Mary, Buccament in the Archdeaconry of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The institution, induction and installation of Archdeacon Glasgow as Rector of the Parish of Holy Trinity, Castries with St. Mary The Virgin, La Caye, is a historic event for Saint Lucia as it is the first time that a husband and wife team will serve as Rector and Priest in charge respectively for the Parishes of the Anglican community in Saint Lucia.
