Goal spree continued in CFC/SLFA Northern Zone U-10 and U-17 youth tournament

THE goal-scoring spree continued in the 2018 Castries Football Council Northern Zone / and the Saint Lucia Football Association in Under-10 and Under-17 tournament with a combined total of 27 goals scored in five matches, taking the overall tally to 60 goals over two weekends.

In U17 action played at the Corinth playing field, home team Massy Stores Northern United recorded their second consecutive 6-0 victory when they handed BAYS FC another heavy defeat. Jeremiah Justin scored a hat trick and was supported by tournament leading goal-scorer TurgardStava and a lone strike from Samuel Lawrence.

In the other match also played at the CPF, Big Players were in a goal-scoring mood as they unleashed an attacking blitz on a gallant Reduit FC to record a 6-1 victory. The scoring for Big Players was balanced as three players scored braces: JenaieLesmond, Kevin Francis and Cyrus Hubert. Jovanni William was the lone goal scorer to Reduit FC.

The other U-17 match was a Central Castries derby which saw VSADC Lucozade U-17 up against Flow Lancers FC. VSADC Lucozade U-17 rushed out to an early lead, thanks to a powerful strike by Anthony Mondesir from outside the box, an exquisite direct free kick from national youth player Simeon Francis and a left foot shot by the reigning St. Mary’s College junior footballer of the year Akil Gabriel.

Flow Lancers FC, despite being three goals down, did not give up as they took advantage of lax defending by VSADC Lucozade U-17 to pull a goal back before the half-time whistle, thanks to DanilleAmedee.

The second half saw three more goals, as Anthony Mondesir completed his hat trick and Theo Pierre got another goal for Flow Lancers FC, as the game ended 5-2 in favor of VSADC Lucozade U-17.

After two rounds of matches in the Under-17 category, Group A – Massy Northern United FC heads the point table with 6 points, VSADC and New Generation are both on 3 points, Bays FC and Flow Lancers FC have lost both of their matches played to date.

Group B – Big Players are ahead with 6 points followed by Valley Soccer FC on 3 points, while FC Pioneers and Reduit FC are not yet off the mark.

In Under-10 action, VSADC defeated New Generation 3-1.

The goal scorers for VSADC, JahnardModeste, Armani Lesmond and Jerjan Francis, while Mc KendyCadette pulled one back for New Generation FC.

In game No.2, Valley Soccer defeated Northern United FC 2-1. For Valley Soccer, an own goal by Northern United, while Omarion Edwin scored the winner; for Northern United FC, Thierry Morrel was the goal scorer.

The tournament takes a break next weekend as the teams will be participating in the Free Kick Foundation Easter tournament.

Matches will resume on Saturday 7 April.
