NWU requests intervention in recognition matter

PRESS RELEASE –  THE National Workers Union (NWU) has written to the Department of Labour requesting its intervention into a recognition matter between the NWU and Soufriere Hot Wire Ride Limited.

The NWU in its letter of February 26, 2018 to Mr. Joseph Joseph of the Department of Labour indicated that the workers have been constantly harassed by Management since learning of the workers’ desire for trade union representation.

The company has since made six (6) senior persons redundant and the NWU has said that the company’s action is in complete breach of Saint Lucia’s Labour Legislation.

A copy of the union’s letter was sent to Hon. Herod Stanislaus, Parliamentary Representative for Soufriere and Shop Stewards employed with Sugar Beach and Anse Chastanet Hotels. The NWU represents employees at both hotels.

The NWU is awaiting the intervention of the Department of Labour’s officials.
