The thanksgiving service was held to mark the commencement of the 50th Lionistic year (July 2017–June 2018) and was the first to be held specifically for Lions and Leos.

This year, the District Governor has challenged Lions and Leos to ensure that “Our Service Makes a Difference”. Zone Chairperson, Lion Cynthia Laurent, who provides leadership for the Zone, has chosen as her theme for this lionistic year, “Continuing to Serve With a Difference”.

Her goals for the Zone for this year are as follows:
• Facilitating appropriate training for clubs in the Zone
• Recognition of the Zone through the various communication mediums
• Coordinating clubs events/milestones for greater participation
• Concentration on execution of projects that impact society
• Growth in membership — ensuring that each club can have a positive increase

The celebrant, Fr. Cleophus Joseph, spoke to the theme – Making a Difference. He gave lions three challenges.
• Try to make a difference in some lives. If you cannot save all, at least save one. In the process, try to give them the ability to help themselves and maybe to help others.
• Try to help them save themselves so that they can be the best that they can be. Try to develop the desire to become better persons.
• To develop a personal relationship with God and aspire to be a better person. This will help in ensuring that we not only become better persons but that our service will make a difference.

Zone Chairperson Laurent noted how pleased she was with the turnout at the service. She was especially pleased that the focus of the day was on lions and the need to ensure that we not only make a difference in service to humanity, but that we aspire to becoming better individuals.

The service was followed by lunch and fellowship at the Lion’s Den, Sans Souci, Castries.
