Spencer In Diamond League Action Today

WORLD-RANKED No.3, Saint Lucia and the region’s prolific high jumper, Levern Spencer, will be in action today at the IAAF Diamond League in Rome. She will be entering the event with a season best (sb) of 1.92 metres.

Spencer, who turns 33 years old later this month, will compete against some of the world’s best high jumpers, including Rio Olympic champion Ruth Beitia (Spain) who has a season best of 1.92 metres. Also in the lineup are MirelaDemireva (Bulgaria — sb 1.88 m), Erika Furlani (Italy), Marie Laurence-Jungfleisch (Germany — sb 1.94m), MarlyaLasitskene (Authorized Neutral Athlete — ANA – sb 2.03m), YuliyaLuvchenko (Ukraine — sb 1.89m), Kamila Licwinko (Poland — sb 1.96m), Sofie Skoog (Sweden — sb 1.92m), Alyxandria Treasure (Canada — sb 1.91m) and AlessiaTrost (Italy).

Meanwhile, the 14-times Sportswoman of the Year added two more medals to her collection within 72 hours as she commenced her first European tour for the 2017 outdoor season.

On Monday, she was in action in Rehlingen, Germany where she again battled tough conditions to win the gold medal with a height of 1.90 metres, thereby taking her gold medal wins for 2017 to five.

Forty-eight hours earlier, competing in Sinn, Germany, Spencer soared over the bar at 1.87 metres to win the silver medal in difficult conditions.
