Round One Ends In VFS Football

FOOTBALL action continues this weekend with four matches in the Vieux Fort South Football League/O.B. Sadoo-sponsored competition at the Phillip Marcellin Grounds.

From 6:00 p.m. today, Victory Eagles play Knights while Stable Boys come up against W. Mangue U at 8:00 p.m.

Action continues tomorrow from 6:00 p.m. when Veterans square off with Uptown and Platinum meeting Green Lake at 8:00 p.m. to close the first round.

On Wednesday, Shamballa and Green Lake played to a 1-1 draw. Having lost their last two games by slim margins, Shamballa were determined to make amends. Both teams attacked each other with all they had, but none could get the back of the net and so the first half remained locked at nil all. On the resumption, determination paid off for Shamballa when Delano Barbour put them ahead with a goal in the 51st minute.

Both teams continued to pressure each other and Shamballa thought they had it won until the 90th minute when a Green Lake player was brought down in the penalty area. Jevic Mc. Farlane made no mistake when he capitalized on the penalty spot and deprived Shamballa of the much-needed 3 points and ended the game at 1-all.

The second game of the night provided even more excitement when W. Mangue U went down to Uptown. Antonio Joseph put W. Mangue U ahead in the 3rd minute, bringing his tally to 9 goals in three matches. Half an hour later Moses Henry pounced on a loose cross and beat the diving W. Mangue U custodian to equalize for Uptown. The celebration was still ongoing when in the 36th minute Twinkle Actille put Uptown ahead with their second goal. W. Mangue U persevered, but the prolific Joseph was kept under wraps. The deal was sealed for Uptown when in the 75th Travis Thomas scored directly from a free kick, giving Uptown a 3-1 victory.
