Big Boxing Team for OECS Tourney

SAINT Lucia is set to host the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States Invitational Boxing Championship from Tuesday April 26 to 30 at the Beausejour Indoor Facility and the local Boxing Association has named its biggest squad ever to prepare for this event.

The squad includes the 2016 Junior Boxer of the Year Nathan Ferrari who won a combined total of eight medals – 4 gold and 4 silver and also captured the Best Boxer of the Tournament at the Caribbean School Junior Boys Championships in Guyana. Also in the squad is Omar Christopher who won gold at the Caribbean Developmental Boxing Championship held in Barbados last December and was voted the Best Youth Boxer of the Tournament.

The reminder of the training squad will also see the likes Lyndell Marcellin, Arthur Languller, Marvin Anthony, Kegan Mortley, Travis Maynard, Kareem Boyce, Ron Bastien, Adrian Louis, Malander St. Clair, Alex Poyette, Yannick Leon who are no strangers to ring, they have all represented Saint Lucia in the past at a number of local, regional and international championships.

Nearly 30 other boxers will seek to impress the technical team of the SLBA headed by Coach Conrad Fredericks who will be assisted by Patrick Wilson, Ray John, Miguel Auguste and Darius Cetoute, all former national boxers and referee Cecil Kerr.

Ongoing structural works on the Vigie Boxing Gym are scheduled for completion within the next six weeks, and as a result the boxers and coaches have been asked to report to training at the Vigie Multipurpose Sports Complex Mondays to Fridays from 3:30 p.m.
