THE National Schools Tennis Tournament served off on Monday at the National Tennis Centre. This year the championship is being played in a Davis Cup format. On day 1 a number of matches were played in the under 12 and 14 boys and girls categories. In the Boys 12 and under category, Grande Riviere Primary defeated the Montessori Centre in straight sets 3 – 0. /Competing for Grande Riviere Primary were Saneil Bernard, Nate John and Ronaldo St. Juste.

Dame Pearlette Team B also defeated the Montessori Centre Team A 3 – 0. Monchy Primary Team A had a similar result as they went on to defeat Dame PearletteLouisy Team B 3 – 0.

In the Girls 12 and under Category – the Montessori Centre Girls were unstoppable defeating Monchy Primary Team A and B 3 – 0. Alannah Bousquet and Alysa Elliot partnered making a strong start for the Montessori Centre.

The Grande Riviere Primary School’s Iyana Paul and Latoya Murray defeated Gros Islet Primary 3 – 0.

The boys 14 and under matches were very competitive Corinth Secondary taking on St. Mary’s College Team B. The score was tied at 1-1 with Maxx William from the Corinth Secondary defeating YadhuUrs from St. Mary’s College and Jason Hunte from St. Mary’s College defeating Jarville Jean from Corinth Secondary. It all came to the deciding doubles match. With amazing team work from the Corinth Secondary School they went on to defeat St. Mary’s College 2 – 1.

In the Girls 14 and under – St. Joseph’s Convent defeated International School 2 – 1.
