CELEBRATIONS are already underway ahead of the gwanfèt for this year’s La Marguerite flower festival which will be observed on Monday.

Yesterday, hundreds of students from infant and primary schools across the island participated in the Schools’ La Marguerite Festival which began with a church service at the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Castries.

During the service, Father Cecil Goodman told the students to incorporate the island’s cultural history into their lives as it serves as part of their national identity.

Most of the students were dressed for the occasion – wearing either blue or purple – and represented various occupations in Saint Lucian society, including nurses, judges and police officers.

The La Marguerite flower festival is observed annually on October 17.
