The Micoud Secondary School moved another step towards replenishing its Learning Resource Centre after that room was gutted by fire two years ago, destroying all of its contents.

Minister for Education, Innovation, Gender Relations and Sustainable Development, Dr. Gale Rigobert, who is also Parliamentary Representative for Micoud North, made a donation of ten laptops to the school at a brief ceremony recently.

Considered an essential organ of the Micoud Secondary School, the Learning Resource Centre provided many services for printing, research, instruction and document binding to students and teachers on a weekly basis. However, those services became non-existent in the wake of the unfortunate fire.

“There is some more to be done and we will continue to do all within our power to ensure the LRC regains its vigour, its verve and becomes the heartbeat of this institution once again,” said Dr. Rigobert to the gathering at the handing-over ceremony.

Newly-appointed Principal of the Micoud Secondary School, Flora Emmanuel-Joseph, was proud of this attainment, acknowledging the positive impact the laptop donation will have on the school and, more importantly, its students.

“The LRC was one of the healthy places at the Micoud Secondary School and we need to commend the school for that. Very often you go to schools, and the LRC rooms are barely used, and it is often encouraging to note that the school makes maximum use of the LRC and provides necessary support that is needed for the students,” said Ms. Emmanuel-Joseph.

Minister Rigobert thanked students and teachers for their patience and announced that the school would, in the coming weeks, be allowed to use the nearby Micoud ICT Access Center as an additional classroom to provide more students with the opportunity to pursue studies in IT courses available at the institution.
