Board Members of the St. Lucia Chamber of Commerce met with the newly installed Mayor of Castries Mr. Peterson Francis on Tuesday August 31st 2016.

Discussions focused on the need to revitalize the Castries Business Center and address issues of indiscriminate vending, lack of parking, the poor aesthetics of the City, improved police presence and better security as well as making the City more attractive, safe and welcoming for shoppers, small business operators, tourists and persons living in the City environs.

The Chamber strongly suggested the need for an agreed master plan for Castries’ development and growth as the administrative and financial Capital of St. Lucia. It was agreed that the Chamber and wider business community including vendors and owners of small business as well as residents, should be engaged in discussions regarding the need to beautify the City. Improve conditions and operation of vendors, addressing parking for busses and parking in general was also addressed.

The Mayor also advised the Chamber of the Council’s plans to improve the financial and administrative condition of the Council, to permit it to deliver on its mandate and called for the collaboration and support of the Business Community and other stakeholders in that process.
