Why a Snap Election?

THE EDITOR:
Everyone is now predicting the PM will call a June election. The signs are everywhere, non-stop Labour ads, public meetings, candidates patrolling designated constituencies, even less activity happening in government than usual. But if elections aren’t due until the end of the year, and constitutionally not due until next year, why would Kenny Anthony want to call the election so quickly? Public opinion is that time is against him and that if he waits too long, too much will come out. But what could come out?

Could it be that Rick has the real IMPACS report and that if Labour waits too long the government could be implicated?

Could it be true that Juffali, having been stripped of the diplomatic immunity we granted to him, wants his money back?

Is it true that the Ollie Gobat investigation by Scotland Yard points right back to failings in and cover-ups by this administration?

Is it true that a decision in the Grynberg case — a matter of Kenny’s own making, could imminently be given and result in a court judgment against St. Lucia for hundreds of millions of dollars?

Is it true that Kenny and Richard Frederick are thick as thieves and that this government recently granted massive tax concessions to Richard Frederick?

Is it true that the U.S authorities are now investigating the government officials implicated in the Lambirds affair?

Is the Lambirds affair bigger than we know as is widely suggested?

Are there other secrets and scandals we do not yet know about? If these things are indeed true, Kenny does not have the luxury of waiting for the time to be constitutionally due to call elections.

Circumstances will dictate that he must call them soon because the longer he waits, the more he risks the ugly truth coming out and he cannot chance this. The only chance Labour has to win this election, if it has a chance, is to do it quickly before St. Lucians learn the truth.
