JUST one week after she was crowned for a record 13th time as “Sportswoman of the Year, St. Lucia’s champion high jumper Levern Spencer ended her 2016 European tour with another gold medal winning performance in Scotland.

Competing last Saturday at the Glasgow Indoor Grand Prix, Spencer continued her good run of form for the indoor season with first time clearances at 1.84 metres, 1.87 metres and 1.90 metres before her first miss at 1.93 metres. But normalcy was resumed when she went over that mark on her second attempt before missing her three attempts at the 1.95 metres mark.

Italian, AllesiaTrost, came in a joint first place with Spencer as they had similar clearances and misses with Great Britain’s Isobel Pooley coming in third, with a similar clearance, but more misses. That mark represents a stadium record now held by those three jumpers.

Spencer, who has the third best jump in the world for this year with a clearance of 1.95 metres, will be heading back to the US where she continues her training with the focus on the Rio Olympics in August this year.

There was more good news for the 31 year old on Monday as she was named amongst several other St. Lucians honoured.
Meanwhile, this weekend at Government House the world ranked high jumper will be inducted with the Medal of Merit (Gold) for long and meritorious service in the field of sports.

  1. Congratulations Ambassador Levern Spencer! You make us extremely proud. You are profiling very high in my presentations about Saint Lucia. You are a legend and an inspiration to promote “Chinese Skip” as a prominent feature in our PE Curriculum. God bless you!
