ECTEL Council Meets in St. Kitts

THE Council of Ministers of the Eastern Caribbean Telecommunications Authority (ECTEL), will meet in St. Kitts and Nevis Thursday.

The meeting will bring together Ministers with responsibility for Telecommunications in all ECTEL Member States- the Commonwealth of Dominica, Grenada, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Telecommunications Ministers from Antigua and Barbuda and Montserrat will also attend. Among the matters for the consideration of the Ministers are the ongoing negotiations between ECTEL and Cable & Wireless on measures to mitigate the impact of the merger of Cable & Wireless and Columbus Communications Inc., progress on the regulation of roaming rates, number portability and Caribbean Regional Communications Infrastructure Project (CARCIP). The Council will also review the work plan and budget for ECTEL for the period October 2015 – September 2016.

The Ministers will later in the day attend a public forum that is being organized by ECTEL as part of activities to mark its 15th anniversary. Chairman of the Broadcasting Commission of Jamaica and Director of the Caribbean Institute for Media and Communication Professor Hopeton Dunn will be the keynote speaker at this event.
