PIGEON Island, home for the popular NORCECA Beach Volleyball circuit, came alive last Sunday as close to 60 young and enthusiastic children enjoyed a one day Festival organized by the St. Lucia Volleyball Association.

According to the SLVA President Brian Louisy, FIVB has encouraged national federations to host festivals and this year the SLVA decided to do so. Students from eleven Secondary Schools from across St. Lucia, each with at least two students took part in the event. The festival was planned during the Beach Volleyball Grassroots Course with participants responsible for getting players from their schools to participate.

Louisy said: “The festival components included a clinic led by the teacher coaches, a series of games among the students and the presentation of T-shirts to the students and volleyball equipment to the teachers who successfully completed the beach volleyball course a week earlier”.

He went on to thank the teachers for their commitment and support demonstrated by the turnout of students as well as coaches. He also applauded the many junior and youth national players who came out to the beach in support of the festival to help coach, and coordinate.
