U-14 Track and Field Athletes On Show Tomorrow

HUNDREDS of young and aspiring track and field athletes will converge on the George Odlum Stadium in Vieux Fort tomorrow when the St. Lucia Athletics Association stages the first of two qualifiers for the 1st National Bank St. Lucia Limited 14 and Under Championships.

According to the SLAA this qualifier is for clubs, schools and individuals from Micoud to Canaries and will commence from 10:00 a.m. The top 16 track athletes and the top 8 field athletes will qualify for the Grand Final.

The young athletes will compete in the following events 60m, 80m, 100m, 200m, 300m, 400m, 800m 1000m, 1200m, 4×75, 4×100, 4×300 relay races. The athletes will also compete in the cricket ball throw, high jump; long jump and javelin throw.

The SLAA has informed coaches and team managers registration that for the northern qualifier for clubs, schools and individuals from Dennery to Gros Islet and also Anse la Raye is still ongoing. The northern qualifier will held on May 17 form 10:00 a.m. at the Mindoo Phillip Park.

Meanwhile, the association is asking all officials to be present and on time as transportation to the Vieux Fort will leave the Derek Walcott square in Castries from 7:00 a.m. tomorrow.
