THE Rodney Bay strip will be the venue for an exciting addition to the Saint Lucia Jazz and Arts Festival-THE ARTS VILLAGE.

The event will be staged over four days, starting yesterday in the heart of Rodney Bay on the strip between the island’s two main shopping malls which will be transformed into a pedestrian zone with an exciting expose of St Lucian arts, heritage and entertainment.

THE ARTS VILLAGE will present an enthralling mélange of visual arts, artisanry, fashion, spoken word, theatre and music. It will serve to enhance the festival experience as patrons become immersed in authentic St Lucian cultural expression.

THE VILLAGE will be the embodiment of THE ARTS COMPONENT as envisioned when the festival was renamed SAINT LUCIA JAZZ AND ARTS. It will be an irresistible entertainment hub, A Great Lime.

The basic format will be the display, sale and demonstration of visual arts, craft and artisanry from 11 a.m to 5 p.m, interspersed with performances and interactive entertainment involving the island’s leading artistes in dance, street theatre, masquerade, Djab rituals, GwanMouvman, stilt walkers, fashion, music in an riveting potpourri. These performances will be on stage, at street level and through the two malls.

Then from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.each evening the event morphs into a musical blast on stage with concert acts involving some of St Lucia’s top musicians.

Thursday 7th
5:30-6:30 School of Music Orchestra
6:45-8:00 Michael Robinson in concert

Friday 8th
5:30-6:30 KAYO (Canada based St Lucian rap artist)
6:45-8:00 Skip Monday band in concert
On the final day, Saturday, the event runs from 10 a.m to accommodate the Pigeon Island main stage event.
