Women Footballers Play For Second Place

IT’S back to Victoria Park in St.Vincent and the Grenadines today for the final round of matches in the inaugural Windward Islands senior women’s football tournament with the host nation ahead on points.

In the first encounter St. Lucia plays Dominica in what can best be described as a do or die match up for second place for the St.Lucians, while Grenada takes on St.Vincent and the Grenadines.

Following on their 2 – 2 drawn game on the opening night against Grenada, St.Lucia had to settle for another drawn game – the same scoreline – this time against St.Vincent and the Grenadines.

The St. Lucians were down 1 – 0 minutes before the halftime whistle, but forward Sasha Prospere’s strike gave them the much deserved equalizer.

St. Lucia lost Shamalyn Albert early into the second half of play when she received a second yellow card.

Despite being one player short, St.Lucia was still able to nose ahead through Joan Alphonse, but unfortunately they were unable to hold on to their advantage as they conceded goal number two in the dying minutes of the encounter.
