Miracle Chef At ‘The Cliff’ Tonight

EVERY year Cap Maison Resort and Spa as part of a skills exchange programme for its young chefs at The Cliff At Cap Restaurant host its “Celebrity Guest Chef” series.

Over the years, internationally acclaimed celebrities like Chef Beau MacMillan have participated in this event. This year, the restaurant has teamed up with Chef Kurt Metzger of the acclaimed San Diego farm to table restaurant “Kitchen 4140”.

As one of the top San Diego chefs, Metzger’s vibrant, simple flavours that draw on products from Southern California’s exceptional farmers have captivated diners and critics alike. What is more interesting is the miracle that is his life and his journey to creating extraordinary dining experiences. Chef Metzger a few years ago was in a life threatening accident that resulted in brain injury which resulted in amnesia. In one moment, every memory, of every aspect of his life was suddenly wiped away including his early journey as a chef and student of the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York. But as Chef Metzger so confidently said “cooking is not from the mind but from the heart”. He went through the process of relearning everything and today is the proud owner of what is quickly becoming a sought after culinary experience in San Diego.

Chef Metzger who is on island with his wife Syrisa, are very excited to be on island to share the culinary styles and trends of the west coast and explore our island flavours. According to Chef Craig Jones, Executive Chef at the Cliff at Cap restaurant “We are looking forward to working with Chef Kurt and this is a great opportunity for our young team to learn new ideas and also see that their standard is of an international quality”.

The Cliff at Cap which was hailed by the New York Times, is considered on of the most elegant dining experiences on the island. Kurt joins Craig and his team for two nights of culinary excellence on Friday, 20th March and Saturday, 21st March. Saint Lucians are invited to this unique, one-time only experience and contact the Cliff at Cap for reservations.

Edna Butcher who was a contestant on the Jr Chefactor Caribbean culinary show and a young chef at the Cliff at Cap restaurant expressed her excitement for this level of exposure to international chefs and the development programmes afforded to her as a member of their culinary team.
