INCIDENT MARS GROS ISLET-SOUFRIERE U-15 MATCH

THE finalist in the St. Lucia Football Association Inter-Districts tournament have been decided following quarter final matches played this past weekend at the Soufriere Mini Stadium

On Saturday in Game 1 Castries Central were beaten 1-2 by North. At the end of the first half the score was 1-1 with goals from Jeannake Sylvester of Central Castries in the 6th minute and Vieux Fort North’s equaliser from Mohammed once in the 34th minute of play.

The resumption saw both teams take the tempo up a notch, but it was Vieux Fort North that nosed ahead when Bryant Polius scored in the 58th minute, to secure the win.

Game No. 2 featured the home team Soufriere against Gros Islet and what a match it was from the very first whistle till the end of regulation time. The young players on the square gave it their all and in the process some tempers flared with the referee issuing the dreaded red card to a Gros Islet player.

The home team opened the scoring through their Riquelme Sylvester from a free kick just outside the box in the 9th minute and that’s how the score line remained at the end of regulation time.

The on field incident did not stop there, as a liquid substance was thrown into the coaster on which the Gros Islet team was travelling hitting one of the players in the eye. Three unidentified young men fled the scene. The Gros Islet team before leaving the town made a formal complaint to the Soufriere Police Station.

On Sunday, two games were played. Dennery defeated Roseau Valley 1-0, the goal scorer Jay Collymore in the 37th minute, and Micoud won over Canaries 2-1 with goals from Jacob Augustin in the 11th minute and CaniiNervais in the 87th minute respectively.

Meanwhile, The Royal Club Under – 23 Inter District Quarter Finals kicks off at the La Guerre Playing Field today with two games featuring Canaries against Dennery from 6:00 p.m. while Anse la Raye plays Mabouya Valley at 8:00 p.m.

Tomorrow, the last two games in the quarter finals will feature Gros Islet against Vieux Fort North from 6:00 p.m. and Babonneau plays Vieux Fort South at 8:00 p.m.
