WINDWARD and Leeward Brewery Limited (WLBL) and Sir Arthur Lewis Community College (SALCC) have signed an agreement to guide the strengthening of a unique internship programme.

At a brief ceremony held at the Sales Office of WLBL at Vide Bouteille, the winner of the WLBL/SALCC Internship Programme logo competition was also announced. Miss Jamisha Phillip, a student of the Division of Technical Studies, was the proud winner of a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3.

Speaking about the partnership PriscaEristhee-Delice, Human Resource Manager at WLBL, said the company recognized that there was a challenge in the sourcing of technical expertise locally. “As a preferred employer we have had to advertise and sometimes re-advertise certain positions with the view to ensuring that we are able to get the right candidate”, she lamented.

They therefore adopted a problem solving approach with the view to addressing the skills gap. Delice explained that through the internship programme, students would benefit from six weeks of training with the WLBL experts as well as structured mentoring and coaching.

She added: “We also recognized that we needed to build a talent pipeline and we wanted to ensure that when your students left your walls that we could provide opportunities for employment at WLBL”, noting that WLBL boasted of having modern technology and the right skills through constant training.
