AN alleged praedial larcenist got his just desserts at the hands of his victims who took the law into their own hands and went all out to ensure that he stops preying on their property.

Residents of Maynard Hill were treated to a spectacle on Tuesday afternoon after the alleged thief was spotted tied to a utility pole on display for all to see.

Huge crowds gathered around to take photos and make fun of the middle aged man and were saying that enough was enough with the sticky-fingered bandit.

Flora, Terry and Eli who are the victims of the theft are owners of a number of fruit bearing plantain and banana plants.

They told The VOICE how they caught the man who had allegedly come on to their property and stolen a bunch of ripe plantains.

Flora and Terry both said that they had had enough of the perpetrator’s thieving ways and felt it was time to teach him a lesson.

Terry, who claims to be the main captor said: “We met a vagrant who had been continuously stealing our goods in our garden. We caught him red handed so we picked him up and we tied him and made an example out of him”.

The “vigilante” said he hoped that this incident would cause the alleged thief to think twice before coming on to their property again.

Terry said his captive is well known for being a common thief and nuisance in the areas of Maynard Hill and Pavee.

Flora said she felt happy that the man was apprehended and exposed in such a manner as he was responsible for stealing the food from her children’s mouths.

Speaking of the perpetrator’s notoriety, she said: “If he is given a job for example, to carry cement, he would pass back and steal the people’s cement. He would carry it for them and then pass back at night and carry it away. He steals a lot. It was high time that somebody stopped him”.

Flora said that upon apprehension, the alleged thief begged for forgiveness and promised that he wouldn’t commit such acts again.

When asked if the police was called, Flora said they didn’t bother to call them or press charges because they felt that they achieved their goal which was to teach the perpetrator a lesson.

The man was eventually released by onlookers who felt that his punishment had lasted long enough.
